The PCI Data Security Standard, commonly referred to as PCI, is a list of twelve broad security requirements to which a company collecting, transmitting or processing credit cardholder data must adhere or else face steep fines and penalties that include the possibility of revocation as a credit card merchant. These requirements were established by the Payment Card Industry - which includes Visa, MasterCard, and Discover - in response to identity theft and credit card fraud.
Trustwave's PCI assessment process focuses on the security of credit cardholder data, whether a hosting service provider has effectively implemented information security policies and processes and if there are adequate security measures to comply with the requirements to protect cardholder data. Additionally, the assessment confirms that payment card industry best practices are in place.
